Consulate General of Italy in Chicago
The Consulate General of Italy in Chicago is located at 500 North Michigan Avenue,
Suite 1850, Chicago, Illinois, 60611.
The Consulate is directed by a Consul General, a career diplomat, under whose authority falls a vast jurisdiction, comprising the following States: Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming. According to the estimates of this office more than 22,000 Italian citizens live in State of Illinois and over 30,000 live in the entire jurisdiction. In addition, according to a recent census, compiled by the United States agencies, approximately 735,000 American citizens of Italian origin live in Illinois and 1,435,000 live in the before mentioned jurisdiction.
Due to its vast territory, inhabited by over 65 million people, the Consulate General in Chicago is separated by thousands of miles from some of the furthest locations included in its jurisdiction. For this reason it has been established a network of Honorary Consular offices, which is currently composed by an Honorary Consulate, three Honorary Vice Consulates a some Consular correspondents located in the areas with higher concentration of Italian citizens.
The office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The office is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. During the weekend messages are monitored to guarantee immediate response in case of emergencies. Emergency refers to Italian citizens who are residents or tourists, in case of arrest and detention (even when temporary, while in transit in airports); in case of serious car accidents; in case of medical emergency; in case of loss of travel documents in close proximity of a departure or reentry in Italy.
