INVITATION
This type of visa applies to all aliens invited in Italy by public or private organizations for political or scientific-cultural events.
All applications for the "Invitation" visa require the following documents (1 original plus 1 copy):
- passport or official travel document valid at least 3 months beyond the validity date of the visa requested. The passport must have a blank page available on which the visa can be affixed;
- visa application form duly filled out, to be signed by applicant in the presence of a Consular Office either at the Chicago Consulate or at one of its peripheral Consular Offices;
- one recent passport size photograph;
- proof of permanent residence in the U.S., in the form of a green card or valid U.S. long term visa. B1/ B2 visas are not accepted. Students must have a valid I-20 and exchange visitors a valid I-66;
- original letter or fax of invitation (no e-mails) from the Italian organization with details of the event (date, place) and confirming that all expenses are paid by the organizers. The letter must be clearly signed by the person in charge of the organization;
- airline round-trip ticket;
- original, most recent bank/investment account statement(s), on official bank letterhead, indicating account balance(s). Please note that this Consulate has the authority to request, if necessary, additional proof of funds such as: travelers' checks; verification of employment (a notarized letter from your employer verifying your employment status and salary).
- Proof of medical insurance must be provided if you are requesting a Schengen Visa (up to 90 days). Please bring either a letter from the health insurance company or a clear copy of the policy coverage at the time of your application. The letter or the policy coverage page must clearly state the effective dates of the policy, that you are covered while overseas, and that you either have unlimited coverage or a minimum of $ 50.000,00.
